Facilities


The Rocking Horse Nursery provides a safe, secure and challenging space for children where learning through play is supported and developed in a rich and varied environment.
The Nursery has been designed to meet the changing requirements of children as they grow and develop in individual ways.

Children are cared for in five different groups:

Hummingbirds (3-16 months) 
The Hummingbirds are accommodated in two spacious, bright, inter-communicating rooms.
The activity room has been specially designed to provide a play area for imaginative and creative activities to encourage learning and an interest in the environment through all the senses.
The quiet / sleep room provides a permanent, tranquil sleeping and rest area where each baby has their own individual cot. Cosy seating is provided to enable staff to offer an abundance of comfort and cuddles in a soothing and loving environment.

Kingfishers (16-24 months) 
The Kingfishers are based in two large, sunny rooms that overlook the garden to which they have easy access. The rooms mirror those of Hummingbirds and are divided into areas for play and quiet / sleep time.
The activity areas have been specially designed to promote learning and stimulate all the senses while the rest area offers children a calm, peaceful environment in which to relax.

Quetzals (2-3 years) 
The Quetzals are based in a beautiful ground floor room with easy access to the Library and garden. All activities are organised to suit the individual developmental needs of each child and are designed to support the learning environment.
Activities include reading, music, dance, painting, colouring, sand & water play, construction and role play.

Toucans (2-3 years) 
The Toucans are based on the ground floor with direct access and free flow to our beautiful garden.

Macaws (3-5 years)
The Macaws are based in our brand new garden classroom.
Children in these rooms are prepared for the later challenges of school. While days are structured, they allow plenty of time for fun, free expression and play. Children are encouraged to be independent in an open and playful environment, where they move around freely and interact, so developing their social skills.
Each child has a range of activities devised to meet individual needs and talents, with progress being continuously monitored and encouraged.
In line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, the curriculum covers languages, reading, writing, numbers, computers, movement and dance, music, drama, arts and crafts and learning about the wider world.

Library / Computer Room
The Nursery has a reading room on the ground floor for quiet reading, story time, computer work and individual learning.

Multi-Sensory Room
This room has been specially designed to allow children to experience a wide range of sound, light and tactile experiences. This sensory environment is created with fibre optics, light and sound vibration, wind mobiles, tactile activities, music and differing scents for the children to explore.

Garden
Our lovely building is set in attractive landscaped gardens with secure and shaded play areas for differing age groups.
Children have the advantage of a custom-made playground activity centre for climbing, creative and imaginative play which balances freedom with safety.
Sand, water play and a gardening area for children to grow their own plants and vegetables offer them the opportunity to explore, use their senses, and be physically active.
The garden is equipped with special safety surfacing, secure acoustic fencing and CCTV monitoring for additional safety.
A storage area is provided for garden toys, bikes and buggies.
